I am Kristy Kirby, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and I can help:
Are you frustrated with the direction of your life, feeling sad, lonely or anxious? Are you a parent or guardian who is concerned about your child? Are you a teen or young adult looking for someone impartial to talk to? Could you and your family benefit from additional support? It can be hard to seek outside help when you or a family member is feeling sad, anxious, angry, or stressed.
People, especially children, often feel misunderstood and powerless. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment in which problems can be explored so you can rebuild positive relationships, fulfill your authentic self or give your child the opportunity to create a sense of self-worth and empower them to make positive choices.
The first step is recognizing you're ready to make positive changes. The second step is finding the right therapist to assist you in reaching your goals. I'd like to help.
Hi! My name is Kristy Kirby and I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT). I earned my Masters in Counseling, specializing in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling (MFCC) from CSU, Sacramento where I also completed my undergraduate work and my BA in Liberal Studies.
I have a background in business, but while involved in volunteer activities I realized I had a passion for helping others. I was volunteering with organizations such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and very much enjoyed working with the children. I decided to leave the business world and found a job at a nonprofit organization where I did administrative work and gained experience in the field, eventually becoming a counselor. I decided to continue my studies and completed the necessary courses to earn my Masters Degree to become an MFT.
To become a Marriage and Family Therapist in California requires a Master's Degree, completion of 3,000 supervised clinical hours, passing the state written and clinical vignette exams and maintaining ongoing compliance with continuing education requirements. It is a long journey, but I have loved every minute of it!
Over the past 9 years I have been providing therapeutic services to clients from 4 years old through adulthood including the older adult population. I have worked in a variety of settings including schools, residential treatment facilities and outpatient clinics.
If my philosophy and therapeutic approach match what you are looking for, please contact me to discuss your needs.
