Most sexual acting out, most addictions, are our attempts to regulate painful emotions of loss, disconnection, rejection and alienation.

As a cognitive behavioral therapist, I believe we are the product of our thoughts, or core beliefs like, "I'm not good enough", "I'm unlovable," or "I can't count on anyone." These beliefs become self-fulfilling prophesies. But we are being ruled by the unchallenged conclusions of a five year old, and we can turn down this brain noise!
